Jim has lived, studied, and traveled in South Asia for more than 25 years. He is an adjunct professor of Asian Studies at Castleton State College of Vermont. He has lectured in the U.S. and Europe on Buddhist art, architecture, meditation and philosophy. As a photographer, Jim’s keen knowledge of the Himalayan region and cultures has served him well as a location scout for commercial film productions. He has trekked extensively throughout the Himalayas. Personable and witty, Jim’s expertise has attracted travelers from around the world. Jim leads every tour the way he teaches — with passion and concern that each traveler has the experience of a lifetime!
Sridar is from Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Science and a Masters degree in Public Administration. Sridar has worked in Delhi, Mumbai, Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and the United States. Having worked many years abroad has given him many cross-cultural insights. He has a deep understanding of India’s history, religion, culture and art and he shares this knowledge with passion and great articulation. His knowledge of Hinduism and temple architecture is vast. Being a Hindu, Sridar takes our groups into the complex world of Hinduism where he shares his many years of personal experience. South India is a bastion for conservative Hinduism and Sridar explains many of these ancient traditions that have remained alive for more than 3,000 years. Sridar has a warm personality and a keen sense of humor that our travelers really enjoy.
Shyam Kanan is one of senior guides who has worked with Wisdom Tours since we began taking students to India more than 10 years ago. He has a vast understanding off all the regions of India and has traveled extensively also in Nepal and Bhutan. Shyam has a special interest in linguistics and has mastered 9 Indian languages. Shyam is also a certified mountaineering guide who has graduated from the prestigious Himalayan Institute of Mountaineering in Darjeeling. He has led many trekking expeditions to all parts of the Himalayas. His real expertise is Indian culture and religion that he shares openly and clearly to our students. His easy going and casual personality has made him one of our most favorite and popular guides amongst our students.
